HC notice to Hry on plea challenging provisions of Societies Act
CHANDIGARH:The Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday put Haryana government on notice on a plea challenging provisions of Haryana Registration and Regulation of Societies Act, 2012, which bars a convict with sentence of more than one year to be member of any society.

The high court bench of chief justice Krishna Murari and justice Arun Palli has sought response from the government by November 5 on the plea of Matdata Jagrukta Manch, a Gurgaon-based organisation. The convicted person cannot even have water, electricity etc., as for it, a person has to become member of Residents Welfare Society. The law is violating constitutional rights of an Indian citizen if he has been convicted and after reformation wants to form a society for any purpose, the petitioner’s lawyer Pardeep Rapria said.
